This is my favorite easy strawberry shortcake recipe. To call it a recipe
is a bit of an exaggeration because it is really more of a
compilation of ingredients stacked to create a lovely dessert
presentation.
Strawberry shortcake is a great dessert to enjoy during the holidays. It is festively pretty and requires very little time to prepare.
It is also a fast, no-bake dessert to create on long, hot
summer days. There is no need to hassle with long complicated recipes when all you really want to do is spend your time outside enjoying the weather, family and friends. Plus, you don't have to heat up the kitchen by turning on the oven to bake a tasty dessert. Simply purchase vanilla dessert shells from your grocery store bakery when you purchase your strawberries. I also buy a can of whipped cream topping.
Below are the instructions for compiling individual strawberry shortcakes that takes little
effort to make. Adults and kids alike, love this easy version of strawberry shortcake.
Strawberry Shortcake Ingredients
2 Pints Ripe Strawberries - Sliced
2 Tablespoons Sugar (reduce the sugar if you use less strawberries)
Vanilla Sponge Dessert Shells
Whipped Creme Topping
Directions
Step 1: Place the strawberries into a glass bowl and sprinkle with sugar.
Step 2: Stir together with a fork.
Step 3: Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes to 1 hour allowing the sugar to draw the water from the strawberries and create a watery syrup.
Step 4: Place each dessert shell/cup onto a plate.
Step 5: Evenly divide the strawberries and their juice among the shortcake cups.

I made this DIY book for my daughter when she was a toddler. I will share with you some basic instructions for each of the pages, should you decide to make one for any young children in your life.
Each page is made with a heavy type weight of tshirt type material. The stitched on designs on each page will be done before sewing the top pages together with their blank back page. The double thickness of the thick tshirt will make the pages more appealing and also more durable. There are seven completed pages in all, including the cover. Therefore, you will need to cut fourteen squares, approximately eight inches square each.
Make the applique designs on each page, before sewing the front part of the page to the back part of the pages.
On the cover page, I stitched the letters, using zigzag stitches to spell out - My first activity book. I chose a different color thread for each word. You could also write the letters with non-toxic fabric paint, which can be found on Amazon.
I will now go in the order of how I arranged the pages in this book. I went from the easiest for my daughter to be able to accomplish, to the next hardest and so on.
For all of the appliqued designs in this book, I made them with two layers of material, making them more sturdy for many multiple times of play and learning, and also many multiple times of machine washing. The pages will be able to be separated from the yarn binding, for easier washing.
For all of the designs, I used leftover material from other projects I had done.
The first page consists of a watch, bracelet design, attached to the page with elastic. I used one piece of elastic and stitched the folded edges of elastic onto the decorative top. I chose polka dots for the top layer of the bracelet design, and some white fabric for the back of the bracelet design. You can choose any type of design that you want. I did a tight zigzag stitch in a circle shape, and then trimmed the edges off. The doubloe layers of fabric for the designs will also be more durable.
You will want to add each appliqued deisgn to the tshirt fabric, before stitching the front (top) page to the back pages, so that loose threads, etc. are hidden.
On this first page, I stitched on the year, and then added zigzag stitching for, by Mom. You can personalize this page with your own date and or from, if you like.
For the second page, I cut out the basic shape for a pair of pants. Two layers of this fabric are sewn together, and the edges hemmed. I stitched on two belt loops on the pants, and stitched on Velcro pieces on the inner pieces of the belt so that the belt would work. The outer edges of the pants are stitched to the tshirt material, leaving the waist area and the leg bottoms open. It's fun for the kids to stick their fingers in the legs, etc. You could use a snap for the pants, and forego the belt and belt loops.
For the third page, I made a pocket with a snap. Again, the pocket is made with double layers of material. I chose a denim material for the pocket. Since it was a thicker and more sturdy material; I just did a basic straight stitch for secure this item to the page material, instead of the zigzag stitch. You could also use a loop and button to close the pocket flap.
For this next page, I made a shirt that has two buttons. The dinosaurs was a fun fabric that I had on hand. Like, the pants, the shirt is made of two layers of fabric, and I did a zigzag stitch around the outer edges, leaving the neck, sleeve bottoms, and shirt bottom open, so the kids can open it up. I like using somewhat large and colorful buttons. The larger size will be easy for the young child to handle. Here is where you can find colorful buttons on Amazon.
This page features a purse that has a zipper on the inside. The purse itself can be made with one large rectangle that is folded to make a flap over the lower part. You probably won't find a zipper short enough to fit the purse opening; I just extended the rest of the lower part of the zipper beyond the end of the fabric and cut it off. I used zigzag stitches to help secure the zipper in place; I used a nylon zipper. Here is where you can find nylon zippers on Amazon. The back of the purse is open on top, giving the kids an extra place to slide their hands into, but you can stitch that part down if you like.
The last page turned out to be my favorite. It features a fun shoe shape that has a tongue, and has eyelets applied for lace a shoe string through. I stitched the shoe string in place, between the two bottom eyelets, so that it can't be removed. I chose a corduroy material for this for its thickness and softness as well. A canvas material could also work great for the shoe. Here is where you can find eyelets for fabric on Amazon. Be sure to get a kit with a tool, if you don't already have one.
Note:
All of these pages are just what I did. Hope my directions are helpful. However, you can do other ideas if you like. For instance, a hook and loop shirt if you don't want to do buttonholes. You can do a Velcro strap on the shoe. You could do a snap on the pants, do a loop and button on the pocket, etc. So yeah, have fun with it; the choices are yours.
Assembly:
Each page is sewn together, with right sides together, on three sides. I then cut the corners of the two corners that will form the inner edges of the completed pages. That will make turning the pages right side out, easier. After the pages are turned right side out, the open outer edge is stitched together. (This is the back edge of the pages.) I used a zigzag type stitch that was on my sewing machine to finish off the open edge. I used various decorative stitches around the three closed edges, each with a different colored thread. This helps the page edges to lay flatter.
I marked three holes on where I will place the eyelets, on what is the binder side of the pages. The eyelets I used for this, measure 5/8 inch. With leftover yarn I had on hand, I made a braid with three different colors. I used approximately two yards of each color of yarn. I wove the warn through the eyelets, from each end, criss crossing in the middle, and then tied a bow on an end. This way, the yarn can be untied and the book disassembled when the pages need to be washed.
Hope this makes enough sense for you to make your own awesome First Activity Book.
If you are desire to purchase a sewing machine, I recommend Brother. My current machine and previous machine are both by Brother. Here is a link for Brother sewing machines on Amazon, if you are interested.
All the best.

If you came here searching for Fisher-Price's Santa Sing-A-Ma-Jigs, you are already aware of this unusual toy and have likely seen him or at least some of his cousins in action. For those of you who have not seen these chattering, singing, and harmonizing creatures, let me introduce you in this brief review.
They were very popular when they were released and the Sing-A-Ma-Jigs made it onto Time Magazine's list of the Top 10 Toys of 2010 and were named Toy of the Year in 2011. The tagline for this series of plush toys was "For kids and kids at heart, the Sing-A-Ma-Jigs" and they did appeal to people of all ages.
Santa was the original Christmas-themed release but eventually there were other Christmas versions, including the singing snowman and reindeer as shown above.
THE VIDEO
This short YouTube video will give you an idea of what the toy was all about.
SANTA CLAUS
The Santa Claus Sing-A-Ma-Jig was a cute little Santa-themed plush toy. He was a fun-loving guy and had three ways he liked to interact with you, which included chattering in his own gibberish language, singing Jingle Bells, his favorite Christmas carol, or singing with his other friends. While he could join in the chorus with the others, he sure stood out from the pack in his Christmas colors of green and red. In addition to entertaining you with his performing ability, he also made a great Christmas decoration.
SNOWMAN
What wasn't to love about this snowman-themed Sing-A-Ma-Jig? He was adorable and he also sang Jingle Bells, chattered, or sang in harmony with his friends.
REINDEER
The Reindeer Sing-A-Ma-Jig was another adorable choice. He sang We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and, of course, he chattered and sang along with his friends. I am sure he was meant to represent Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer though he was not licensed nor sold as such since The Rudolph Company tightly controls the copyright and trademark to that character.

If you really love jalapeno dip, but find that it is just too hot and spicy or it does bad things to your tummy, you definitely need to try this recipe! It is not hot, but it still has a full, delicious flavor and is always a hit at any party.
Ingredients:
8 slices of bacon, crumbled
2 packages of cream cheese, softened
1 cup of mayonnaise
1 green pepper (if you like spicier but not hot) or 1 red pepper (if you prefer a more sweet taste) remove the stem, seeds and membranes.
1/4 cup sweet onion, diced
1 cup of mozzarella cheese, finely shredded
3/4 cup of cheddar cheese, finely shredded
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
Topping: (optional)
1 cup of crushed potato chips
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Lightly spray an oven safe dish with cooking spray. I use a pie plate but you could also use an 6 x 6 square glass baking dish.
Mix the cream cheese, mayo, basil, garlic powder and bacon until smooth. I use an electric mixer, on an ultra slow speed, but you can mix by hand as well. I like a mixer because it makes the dip fluffier, but it is a matter of personal preference.
Add the rest of the ingredients one at a time, always stirring, save the pepper for last.
When the mixture is totally smooth place the dip in the sprayed baking dish.
If you are using topping, combine all the ingredients in a bowl and sprinkle over the top
Bake the dip for 25 to 30 minutes, until the dip is browned and bubbling.
Serve hot.
One of the best things about this dip is that it is still wonderful, even when it cools to room temperature. I usually serve it with tortilla chips, but if you don't want to go in a Mexican direction, you can serve it with pita chips, crackers or Fritos.
If you are not a fan of green peppers, you can also use sweet banana peppers instead or just about any pepper that you like the taste of. If you would like a bit of zip, but you don't want the full heat of jalapenos, you can toss in one hot banana pepper and that will give it some zest. Just don't forget to remove the seeds and membranes as that is where much of the heat is in peppers.
If you like dips that are not hot, but still full of delicious flavor this is the dip for you! There are lots of variations on this recipe, I have seen it with crab, pulled pork or shredded chicken. I prefer bacon, because, well, EVERYONE loves bacon!!
I have served this dip at many parties and it never fails to impress. Make sure to put a folded card next to the dish on the table that says
Pepper Popper Dip - NOT HOT!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

In this legal thriller, Jana Waters' husband was murdered on their boat dock and tossed into the water. She is being tried for murder. The victim was the well-respected Dr. Waters but for a variety of reasons there was a short list of folks in this small town who might have wanted him dead. She insists that Jason Rich, the ambulance-chasing injury attorney, represent her.
While people are celebrating the 4th of July, no one hears the gunshots that kills Dr. Waters. The upcoming trial exposes how the mixing of affairs, alcohol, drugs, and debts can ruin lives, relationships and careers.
The cast of characters in Rich Blood by Robert Bailey:
Dr. Waters - A beloved small town doctor who also had some significant flaws as a husband. As a doctor, he'd been sued for a surgical mistake on the town's star football player; ending those college prospects and future career.
Jana Waters - The pampered, emotionally volatile doctor's wife who lived in the nice house on the water, with her husband and children. She also owed a significant amount of money to her dealer.
Jason Rich - Jason returns to town at the request of his sister. She asked him to be her defense attorney in her murder trial. After all, he was a successful attorney complete with billboards in the area that nobody could miss. Billboards for accident and injury cases. Fresh out of rehab for his own addiction issues, he decides to return to the town he was glad to have left behind and agrees to represent her. It is his first time trying a criminal case.
Waylon Pike - the criminal who was "by no means a criminal mastermind" claims that he was paid by the wife to kill Dr. Waters. Was he really stupid enough to brag about committing the murder or was that a part of framing Jana Waters?
I believe I've just discovered a new favorite author. As is often the case, I may be the last to know about a talented author. Robert Bailey is an award-winning, best-selling author whose specialty is legal thrillers. It is easy to understand Bailey's popularity as a writer with the character development. I was completely absorbed in Rich Blood and immediately began the 2nd book in the series.

It began quietly, the way honest thoughts often do. Almost a follow-up from last week's intense article about self-discovery.
Tucked under the sheets at 3 a.m. last night, phone glowing in the dark, I opened the notes app and started typing.
I wasn't planning to write anything. I just felt the words pressing in, asking to be let out before sleep could claim them. What came through felt urgent, reflective, and very real — something that needed to be written exactly as it arrived.
At first, the tone felt somber. The questions were heavy. But as the writing continued, something shifted. Without forcing it, a sense of lightness began to weave its way in. Not denial, and not false optimism — just the reminder that even intense questions can exist alongside hope.
These lyrics became Five Minutes of Peace.
Verse One: Are We Being Tested?
The first verse explores a thought many of us have had in our quieter moments — the feeling that life might be some kind of test. As if unseen forces are watching, placing bets on how much we can handle before we crack, adding weight to already full lives just to see what happens next.
It's not a comfortable idea, but it's an honest one. When challenges stack up without pause, it's natural to wonder whether endurance itself is being measured. This verse lingers with that discomfort rather than rushing past it.
Verse Two: Did I Choose This Life?
The second verse shifts perspective and asks a different question altogether. What if this life wasn't assigned to us? What if we chose it?
Here, the idea of being an angel on a grand expedition comes into play — willingly stepping into a difficult life for the sake of growth or learning. And then, midway through, I realized just how exhausting that choice feels. There's a hint of humor in the self-awareness, a moment of wondering what we were thinking, and the very human desire for an intermission.
Verse Three: Is This Karma?
The third verse turns toward karma — the belief that life may be about balancing energies and settling accounts. Are we here to clean up what came before? To answer for past actions, past choices, or even inherited weight we didn't personally create?
This verse doesn't offer judgment or certainty. It simply acknowledges the possibility and complexity of understanding why life unfolds as it does.
The Chorus: Peace for Everyone I Love
The chorus opens outward. The five minutes of peace being asked for isn't just personal relief — it's a moment that includes my children, my family, my friends, and the wider world all at once. True peace, for me, only exists when the people I love are safe, and when the world they move through feels calm as well.
It's a utopian idea, and I'm aware of that. But that's what makes it meaningful. For five minutes, darkness is defeated not because it's ignored, but because it isn't touching anyone. There's no need to send good vibes or wish things better — everything already is. For those five minutes, everything is right, everywhere, all at once.
The Ending: Letting Go of the Labels
By the end, the need for answers softens. The lyrics don't land on being a misfit, an angel, or a soul working through karma. Instead, they arrive at something simpler and more forgiving.
I'm just a girl here to learn — from the love, the chaos, the beauty, and the drama that come with being human. No cosmic labels required. No final explanations needed.
Why I Shared This
This lyric video holds contrast. It asks heavy questions without becoming heavy itself. It allows seriousness to exist alongside brightness, intensity alongside hope. That balance reflects how the lyrics came to life — in the quiet of the night, shaped by curiosity rather than certainty.
Sometimes, five minutes is all we need.
And sometimes, writing it down at 3 a.m. is enough to remind us that we're not alone in asking why life gives us so much to carry.

We have been using Weiman cooktop cream since we got a glass-top stove. After cooking a delicious but messy meal, you know the struggle of spills and greasy splatter. This product has definitely earned a spot in our kitchen, keeping our glass-top stove clean and shiny.
Weiman cooktop cream is designed specifically for glass and ceramic stovetops, making it effective at tackling the most common problem: burnt-on residue.
One of the biggest concerns of glass-top stoves is scratching. The formula is gentle enough to protect the surface while delivering a thorough clean and shine.
You can buy Weiman with cleaning pads or simply use paper towels to apply it. We prefer using the cleaning pads; they work better for us. It's easy to use, just apply the cream, then wipe with a paper towel.
Here is our stove top after cleaning it with Weiman. Tip: One thing we have learned is to let your stove top cool before trying to wipe it clean. For a really tough, burnt-on spill that just won't clean up, I use a razor blade to carefully, gently scrape it off. Weiman Cook Top Cream leaves a glossy finish that makes your cooktop look new.

We recently brought home a puppy and immediately started buying puppy
appropriate gifts for the little fellow.
One might think immediately of
puppy food and a dog
bed when you first get a puppy. Of course, we did bring home a puppy
bed and food. However, we immediately realized he needed teething
toys. We started with one that we knew would be a wonderful toy since
our adult dogs have always loved them. But, let me tell you, one is
not enough! He currently has 8 teething toys that he has in various
locations. The one he prefers apparently depends on his
mood.
For training, we also needed Milk-Bone biscuits, Mini Pure Bits (liver) and
Quaker Apple Cinnamon Rice Crisps. Our vet recommended the rice crisps
years ago because of their lower calories. A lot of treats are
required for training!
A fleece blanket also makes a great gift! My mother purchased our
little puppy a Christmas fleece blanket that he received immediately.
He loves that blanket! Most often, he lays on it on our leather couch,
but he can drag it down to the floor when desired to make a impromptu
bed.
We already had a ramp, which the puppy will use as an adult to "walk"
himself up into the back our our SUV. It is extremely important to
start that training early by placing the ramp against a couch and letting
them naturally climb it to get onto a couch. We discovered the hard
way that an adult dog may be afraid to climb a ramp regardless of offered
treats.
A doorway gate may not "feel" like a great gift idea. However, I
assure you, not only are you protecting your furniture and home decor, you
are protecting the puppy from cords or falling items after he runs into an
end table. I'm sure you get the idea. We can't watch them
constantly, therefore, they should not run free through an entire home
heedless of potential dangers. Puppies are full of energy and running
is exactly what they prefer to walking.
Believe it or not, I would also suggest Johnson's Baby Shampoo for a
puppy's gift. Again, that was also recommended by our vet for a
puppy.
A few weeks home and these are the "gifts" for puppy that we have found
essential. With Christmas upon us, it seemed like the best time to
recommend gifts for puppies (or dogs) if they happen to be on your gift list
too.
All of the above mentioned gifts are featured below and linked to either a
previous review or to a store for purchase.
Puppy Chew Toys Make Great Gifts
As I said, these toys will most likely become what you want to get first
and continue to add to the collection over time. You realize quickly
that your furniture, bedding, beloved stuffed animals, and even your skin
need to be protected from puppy chewing and teething. The best way to
prevent damage is to offer a chew toy that is made for that purpose.
35 years ago, our first puppy turned our kitchen chair legs into gnawing
posts. While it is funny to recall now when my husband refers to the
puppy "toothpicks", it was definitely not funny when it
happened.
Of course, you still must train yourself to say "no" since puppies, like
any baby, will continue to test your patience and tolerance. Having a
desirable option is in everyone's best interest.
With human babies in mind, I bought a few teething toys that can go in the
freezer to make a cold chew toy for our puppy.
We have always been familiar with the Kong products and know from
experience that they are fabulous. However, my cousin brought Watson
(our puppy) a Outward Hound bone. He loves that bone! Therefore,
I would highly recommend it too.
We all like special treats for the holidays. Puppies may not recognize special days of the year, but we do and we like gifting our baby dogs with special treats for special occasions. Milk-Bone brand recognizes our desire for special treats and they make fun shaped dog biscuits just for the holidays. Plus, a Christmas fleece blanket always makes a puppy happy and we appreciate the added Christmas "decor" in our home.
Our adult dogs have always appreciated their annual fleece blankets from their granny. We use them year round in the cars, on hardwood floors, or wherever that little bit of comfort for our puppy is needed. After all, we don't mind a touch of Christmas spirit throughout the year.
I mentioned the necessities like the gate, the ramp and the shampoo for puppies. For Puppy parents who do not have these items, they would be greatly appreciated. The parents, themselves, may not recognize their importance until they start using them, but time will prove out how much they are truly needed.

I really enjoy cozy mysteries, so as the Christmas season was approaching, I found several Christmas themed cozy mysteries that I downloaded to my Kindle. I found one set of books that contained three different cozy mysteries all about a woman named Meridith and called Merry. In these mysteries you are introduced to Merry and her interesting cast of friends who live in a small town.
Santa Slaughter
The first book in A Very Merry Murder Mystery series is set during a Christmas festival in a small town. Meridith "Merry" is in between jobs and is working as an elf in the Santa hut. Her friend Maggie has a booth by the Santa hut that sells hot chocolate. On the first day of the festival Merry is working to set up the candy canes and her helpers are getting the children in line to see Santa. The first two children enter the hut and start talking to Santa when he gets called away for a minute. When Merry goes to take the photos she discovers that Santa is not there, the children show her how he went out the back door of the hut. When Merry goes out to check on him she finds him on the ground and the mystery begins.
First Date Disaster
In the second book, Merry's life his getting on a good track. She now has a job running the cafe/coffee shop in her small town. She also has a love interest in the town veterinarian. When the book opens, they have yet to go on a date but that soon changes and things are looking up until they run into a dead body on their first date. Merry feels invested in solving the murder especially when a friend of hers becomes a suspect. Rob, her date, is supportive and helpful but what a start to a relationship! Will this work out? Will the murder be solved? You will need to read the book to discover these answers.
The Body in the Bookstore
The third book in the series takes place when one of Merry's favorite authors, Aloysius Hunt comes to town to talk about his newest book at a local bookstore. Merry's Aunt Cassie is also a big fan of the Mr. Hunt, so she comes to town to attend the event with Merry. Before the event they are serving people in the cafe when a group of big fans of the Aloysius Hunt come in for some snacks and drinks before the big event. They follow Mr. Hunt wherever he is speaking and they are very excited about his newest book.
All is going well until they are at the bookstore, and a tragic accident occurs. When it turns into a murder, it looks like they have another mystery to solve.

Christmas is that one time of the year when sights and sounds seem to be
everywhere! Some of them evoke strong memories in young and old alike.
There is nothing like the smells of Christmas baking, gingerbread houses,
sugar cookies decorated to tingle the senses and a host of other "seasonal
decorations" that just make you smile all over.
One of these little decorations had my "tech-savvy" grandchildren mesmerized
for quite a while and each year, they look for that decoration and enjoy it's
slow and steady movement. All without the need of any tech or
batteries!
Each Christmas when I bring out this decoration, I can't help but smile and
recount those little faces watching this windmill turning on it's axis and
listening to Christmas carols in the background.
My little windmill came to me from a trip I took to Iceland, but I'm so happy
to see a very similar one here that you can purchase to add to your Christmas
collection. There is just one caveat that must be noted! This is
not a decoration that can or should be played with. It does involve a
candle and fire, so little hands must stay away and parents need to monitor
their children around this decoration. The smile on the little faces is
worth the extra effort to keep it in a safe place.
These windmills and similar ones make a lovely tabletop decoration that will
last for years. Enjoyment comes from watching the movements of the
hanging ornaments. I have found a spot for mine that doesn't even
require that the candle be lit! Just the air currents in the home keep
my little snowflakes spinning!
On a cold winter night, with Christmas music playing in the background, these
little dancing snowflakes make a nice cozy spot to contemplate the Christmas
message and find a little peace in a rather rushed and frenzied time of year.
For your pleasure and also for your choices of designs, I have included a link
for all of the windmills available. Some have stars, others have
reindeers or nativity scenes. Some have chimes and others not.
Each one is beautiful and your tastes may be somewhat different than mine so
with that in mind please take a look for yourself and find the one that
"speaks" to you! Just click the link where it says
WINDMILL CHRISTMAS !
I'm wishing all of you some quiet, contemplative time to enjoy all the sights,
the sounds and the meaning of Christmas to you!
